"I am Dragonus."

...

"Look what I learnt, Shendelzare!"

...

"My apologies, Princess, but I have to attend to my studies."

...

"How could I let this happen...?"

....

"I will bring you back, even if it meant an eternity of suffering for me."

When they were born, Dragonus and Shendelzare were not meant to even know eachother. They were from two different social classes.
A skywrath mage, the most renowned wizards of the universe, and a princess. But somehow, they met. Maybe by accident, maybe it was the fate, but they met. And that day their life changed. It was a quick stare into each other's eye that turned into something much stronger than any feeling ever human could feel. Skywraths are bound for life; they recognize their lover at first sight, and cannot fall twice.
In their former years, they had no obligations, no commitments. This allowed them to spend most of their playtime together. And when Dragonus started studying arcane arts, all his magic was a game for the two lovers. He would have entertained Shendelzare for hours, for entire days, and they would have laughed, played, cuddled for so long.
But the time went by, and now they were almost adults. Studies were much harder, and Dragonus discovered his magic was deadly. Shendelzare's mother was soon to die because of a disease, and she would have had to take her place as queen very soon, and she had to be prepared to rule a land. There, a huge crack showed up. Their daily encounters became weekly, then monthly. They almost never had time for eachother. But Dragonus was too concerned about his studies to notice that Shendelzare was getting sad, every day more.
And then the day came. The queen died. Shendelzare was not the only daughter of the queen, but she was her most loved. She did not want to be queen, but that was her fate; nor wanted her sisters. That day, a conjure against her was made; the knives of many skywrath hands pierced and shred her skin, and her screams of pain and agony echoed in the air. Her wings were torn, feather by feather. Everyone heard the echoing screams from the Skywrath Castle. Dragonus was the first to arrive, but he was late. The murderers had left the place much before, and his lover was now in a pool of her own blood, with her clothing soaked in it and her few remaining wings red.
He could not speak, he could not scream. He ran to her, he fell on his knees and wrapped his hands around her almost lifeless body, caressing her face, with guilty tears running down his cheeks. Oh, if only he had more time for her, if only he would have been there to protect her! And as soon as his first tear dripped on her cheek, a soft moan came from her lips. Her weak, pale hands twitched, slowly trying to reach his hands. "Dragonus... you came" was all that she could say. He grabbed her hands. He interlaced his fingers with hers, sobbing, unable to speak properly. "I am sorry..." She was crying too. But her pale, dying lips were lifted on the corners, in a weak dying smile. "It was not your fault, my love... Live, be the mage you always had to be. Forget me... And live..." Were her last words. She closed her eyes, slowly, and her hand slipped out of his grip. Dragonus laid there on his knees, crying, and all of sudden rage and hatred ran in his veins and his blood boiled, he got up, holding the corpse of her loved one in his arms and roared, he roared violently, and swore that he would not have given up on her, that not even death would have split their hearts, and that all those who hurt her would have paid with life; but what he did not know, is that her soul would have come back to seek for vengeance.
No one came at her burial. No one cried for her.
The same day of her burials the new Queen was crowned, and everyone preferred that event over the commemoration of the poor Shendelzare.
She came back, driven by the energies of the goddess Scree'Auk, and all that was left of her beauty was gone. Her eyes were empty, her smile gone, her pale skin now purple and dead, and her wings torn.
Dragonus did not know. The day he saw her, he had the brightest smile he ever had. "My love!" He exclaimed. He ran to her, pouncing her and trying to grab her, to bring her high in the sky with him as his wings fluttered. But she did not have feelings anymore. She grabbed his wings and ripped them off of his back and he fell to the ground. He slowly pulled his head up and stared at her, shocked, wounded, crying once more. "Shendelzare..." he mumbled. "Why...?" "You now know how does it feel to have no wings!" She screamed. Her voice was a painful echo in the air. "I tried to give you all I could... if this is what you want to be free, Sweet Spirit, so it be. End my life and wear my wings and fly! Fly high in the sky where you belong!" He soared, before coughing, spitting blood. She looked at him, but nothing was in her eyes. He stared back into her eyes, and he whispered to her sweetly his last words. "If this is meant to be, so it be. We cannot fly together, maybe, but I'll give my life for you. My love will never die." She did not pay attention to his words, and extracted her long, harpy-like claws, she shred his chest, and abandoned him to a slow, painful death. But he did not cry, nor he did scream. He smiled, staring at her for all the time, until a black veil came upon his eyes, and he fell in the abyss of darkness.
And when his life was over, Shendelzare's soul was now free from her desire of revenge. Her beauty came back, ghastly wings grew on her back and her pale, candid smile grew on her cheeks. "I'm coming for you, Dragonus." She spelled softly, before raising up in the sky, flying higher, higher until she faded into the clouds, her soul now free from her desire of vengeance, free to spend eternity with the one who gave his life for her.
